In the bearing industry, the use of 304 stainless steel bearings is the most extensive, but in our daily use, stainless steel bearings sometimes fail due to failure, or the life is shortened, and the ability to work is lost. Below we analyze the reasons for the shortened life of 304 stainless steel bearings.
In the actual use of traction motors, the failure of stainless steel bearings has been a large proportion. The causes of damage are mostly the improper bearing of the inner ring of the stainless steel bearing and the shaft, the damage of the cage in the first place, the poor lubrication or the tooth profile distortion of the traction gear, and some fatigue damage. The complexity of this damage determines the failure life of stainless steel bearings must be statistically and researched separately. For the locomotive operation failure, people are more accustomed to using the concept of fault life, and the part of the fatigue damage, trauma, crack, erosion, corrosion, etc. after disintegration is only counted as the generalized fault life. This habitual definition is not scientific enough and needs to be adjusted. The fault life referred to here is the fault life in a broad sense.
This is because stainless steel bearing operation failures occur from time to time, but in terms of the number of pieces; it is much lower than the amount of prior damage found after disintegration, so the fault life of 304 stainless steel bearings should be determined by the sum of the two types of failures. Generally, in order to simplify the convenience of calculation and statistics, it is often accurate to calculate the number of faults found in the disassembly from the maintenance record and calculate the fault life of the bearing.
